A Phono Preamplifier is required if your amplifier or receiver does not have a phono input. The NAD PP2e is also a solid upgrade from the built in Phono input on most receivers made in the past 30 years. This unit can handle both Moving Magnet(MM) and Moving Coil(MC) Cartridges.
